Mami – [Kali]

Listening to up and coming rapper Kali’s new single, “Mami,” will immediately give any listener a bit more confidence in their strut. Two extremely noticeable aspects of the single jump out the speakers right off the bat: attitude and bounce. Produced by Texas’ very own Cas7800, the simple yet satisfying beat can easily be compared to OG Maco’s “U Guessed It.” With the emphatic delivery of a true rap queen in the making, Kali proves herself to be a female emcee with the potential of dethroning Nicki Minaj or Cardi B (whoever your queen is) in the near future. All in all, “Mami,” is a summer smash. Follow Kali on Twitter here and stream the song below: Words by Barry R

No Hook – [Kali]

Kali is a rapper from southwestern Florida who has a debut single and dance challenge that’s out that may pop off soon entitled “No Hook.” We’re finally at a point where there are more women being heard and having a voice in rap, and in 2019, it looks like this year will only spawn more women rappers that derive from different styles and backgrounds. Even though Kali didn’t really start taking music seriously until the end of 2018, “No Hook” shows the potential that lies within her. It’s crazy because I can actually see this track blowing up thanks to virality with its challenge on platforms such as Tik Tok, Thriller, or Musically. The “No Hook” visuals are directed by fellow Floridian Josh Hall who captures Kali taking in the state fair with her girl posse. Watch the video for Kali’s for “No Hook” below.

Eyes – [Ambar Lucid]

Little Ferry, New Jersey singer and songwriter Ambar Lucid finally released visuals for her beautiful ballad “Eyes.” There’s no question about it Ambar Lucid is a star in the making. She’s already a self-taught producer, pianist, and guitarist at the tender age of 18. When I hear Ambar’s lush voice I can’t help but dive into the artist catalog in my mind to find similarities. The first names that come to mind are Amy Winehouse, but even more so another bilingual Latina singer Kali Uchis. With songs like “Eyes” and her other hit “A Letter to My Younger Self” it shouldn’t be much longer until the industry and fans are chomping at the bit to hear more of Lucid. The “Eyes” visuals completely embody the mood of the track of being a hazy and jazzy love story captured by director Thevideoboy and Ambar herself. Based off of the handful of tracks that she’s release I only expect Ambar Lucid’s talent to grow. Watch Ambar Lucid’s video for “Eyes” below.

I Get High When I Think About Us – [Leven Kali]

Soaked in sun and doused with cathartic accounts of love, I Get High When I Think About Us by Leven Kali is one of the best EPs I’ve heard in the past few months. It’s proudly jaded by love, and with gorgeous, warm-weathered production as backing, it’s addictive from the very opening notes of one’s first listen. Clearly, Leven Kali holds the potential to be a star in the near future, and by executing such a lovable creative vision alongside features from Buddy and Na’kel Smith with this one, I can’t wait to see where the budding talent will go next. I Get High When I Think About Us is a beautiful story, so sit back, click play, and allow Kali to explain his life and love to you in just 3 well-executed songs. I promise you won’t regret it.

Don’t Let Me Down – [Joy Crookes]

One of the most important Friday releases you need to be paying attention to today is from U.K. based singer-songwriter, Joy Crookes. Her new visual accompanies the release of the highly anticipated new single, “Don’t Let Me Down.” For background, the highly-talented vocalist first gained notoriety for her powerful 2017 EP, Influence, as well as her captivating COLORS performance during 2017. Joy Crookes has been teasing new music for quite some time, assuring fans for months that new music was on its way, and with this, it’s safe to say the new music was well worth the wait. Her new video is simple, yet profound; Crookes is the focus of the scenery as three pairs of arms behind her, reminiscent of the Hindu God, Kali, create variations of wings, masks, and a crown on Crookes. Act Out – [Rank Jenson]

Rank Jenson is a Chicago based emcee who I met a few years back at a cypher if I am not mistaken, and he has appeared on our website once or twice in the past and tonight he is finding himself back on our pages with his brand new music video for “Act Out”. This song itself was extremely impressive in my opinion, he created a hard hitting record that’s jam packed with cutthroat lyrics, not to mention that the Ryder Visuals directed video made it that much better. Take a few minutes of your time below to get in tune with some Chicago underground talent, and if you enjoy it be sure to give it a like on YouTube to help it grow! Produced by Kali Paylinn

Just A Stranger – [Kali Uchis] feat. [Steve Lacey]

Kali Uchis has released the fifth video from her debut album, Isolation, released in early April of this year. The gifted vocalist brings her song, “Just A Stranger” to life utilizing a series of psychedelic effects that finds the Columbian-American at the beach and then at sea. The theme of money is constantly present in the video as each scene is filled with raining dollar bills. The video is unpredictable in its series of effects that paint Uchis as a menace for currency accompanied by her team of equally money hungry girlfriends. This is a great time for music videos and Kali Uchis is adding her brand of psychedelia to the mix with a powerful performance. It’s going to be hard to watch this video only once. Watch the psychedelic new video from Kali Uchis below and tell us what you think in the comment section!

360 – [Dayo Bello]

I think we can all agree that R&B is having a moment right now. Acts like Brent Faiyaz, Sabrina Claudio, Khalid, 6LACK, Kali Uchis and Daniel Caesar have all taken the world by storm, rejuvenating a genre of music that held major dominance during the late 1990’s. Today, we add another name to the list who is bound for international superstardom, Dayo Bello. The young producer/vocalist from southeast London first gained notoriety with the release of his self-produced single, “Mine” in mid 2017. Since the singles release, Bello has shared one visual and two additional singles that would prep audiences for his debut EP, 360. The 24-minute EP is a sonic representation of love in all it’s forms; bliss, agony, doubt and confidence. Bello delivers an impressive showcase of his talent and ability as an artist, already creating at a level of a seasoned vet. Listen to Dayo Bello’s new EP below and tell us what you think of the 7-track offering in the comment section!

Beauty & Essex – [Free Nationals] feat. [Daniel Caesar] & [UMO]

The Free Nationals have released their newest single from their highly anticipated, self-titled debut album. Many know the Free Nationals as the backing band for Anderson .Paak but what many don’t know is their heavy involvement in all of .Paak’s projects. Their newest single, “Beauty & Essex” is a sultry, bedroom bop about the feelings of overwhelming infatuation. Utilizing Caesar’s croon, the band matches his tone with subtle live instrumentation that act as an accentuation to the vocals. UMO (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) provides additional production value to the song giving it it’s psychedelic shimmer. The new album from the Free Nationals is set to feature Kali Uchis, Syd, Chronixx, Mac Miller and many more. Check out the Free Nationals new song with Daniel Caesar and UMO below and tell us what you think of the groovy new track in the comments!
