MAYDAY – [My Favorite Color]

At this point in time, I’ve probably known about my Favorite Color for the better part of a year. In this time, I have become more and more impressed with the Pittsburgh native with every additional drop because he constantly brings things to the table that I’m not expecting, and this innovation never fails to impress me. So many artists in this day and age seem to put out the same type of music and visuals because they know their fans will eat it up, but I think one of the things that MFC does is consistently think outside of the box, bringing new sounds to the party with every new single that come accompanied by even more intricate and impressive visuals. All of these things combined with his always captivating personality keep me excited to come back for more, and considering he has yet to let me down even slightly, I don’t see my fandom ending anytime soon. Although his songs are constantly in my personal rotation, he is back with a brand-new track entitled “MAYDAY” as well as another incredible Devontae Bennett-directed visual that you need in your life sooner rather than later. As it begins, MFC sits …

i will wait – [Prentiss]

My brother has always been someone who is on the cutting edge of the hottest, most promising young artists, so I honestly have him to thank for so many of the people I listen to today. When he would tell me about some early teenage rapper that is getting major attention and deserves a listen, I used to find it a bit strange and I would typically dismiss his suggestions on that front, but I have realized that closed me off to so many incredible innovators in the world of hip-hop and rap music. Since opening my mind for the last year or so, I found out about Prentiss, a 14-year-old Jackson, Mississippi native who has been taking the music world by storm, and I understand exactly why when listening to any of his records. After tuning in, it makes sense why he signed to Cinematic Music Group and has gotten nods from superstars like Justin Bieber and Meghan Trainer, as well as the fact that he’s being embraced in all different types of subgenres of music. Simply put, he’s such a talented artist no matter his age, and his latest song “i will wait” is yet another reason why …

steve harvey – [MARCO PLUS] x [Quon Popi]

Atlanta, Georgia based artist MARCO PLUS returns to Lyrical Lemonade with “steve harvey;” a standout record off his incredible new album tha souf got sum 2 say. Featuring Quon Popi and produced by ae beats, you can already tell that the track is a hit the moment it plays. The jazzy production creates a sonically pleasing contrast to MARCO and Quon’s modern rap sound. It’s one of those bangers that stands out from others, because it simply doesn’t sound like any other given the stylistic variety. Popi’s hook is catchy and memorable with an inspiring message, whereas the verses solidify the song’s concert value. Personally, I’d absolutely love to see MARCO PLUS perform at Summer Smash next year, with “steve harvey” being one of many mosh-pit producing joints. Have a listen below and be sure to peep all of tha souf got sum 2 say!

Deep Thought – [Dom Kennedy]

“Don’t ask for a verse, ask what’s the price.” I’d certainly like to know the feature price of Dom Kennedy, whose newest video to “Deep Thought” came out October 22 following the release of his new project, From the West Side With Love 3. The visual directed by Jason Madison is an escape, bringing viewers flying over the ocean using drone footage and sunset shots on a beautiful beach shoreline that brought only positive energy. A refreshing sight, Madison uses staging and beautiful artisan rug and flower decor to add an attractive colorful pop to the set. Featuring Kay Franklin and MyGuyMars, the song uses classic west coast influence tied with a modern poetic twist. This piece eludes to what listeners can expect from his newest album which dropped just over a week ago. His latest project, From the West Side With Love 3, released on all platforms October 15, boosting his name into listeners’ libraries once again, as his unmatchable pacific-time-zone flow entraps the audience throughout its entirety. His monthly listeners on Spotify has climbed to nearly 2 million, and this visual alone has already acquired 80K views in just a few days. Watch “Deep Thought” on YouTube below!

Half Dead Pariah – [Drayco McCoy]

At this point in time, I’ve been heavily invested in the underground music scene for the better part of a decade. While this scene is so diverse and multifaceted, I’d be lying if I said I was an expert on even a fraction of the artists coming up right now, but I do feel confident in saying that there are certain talents whom I’ve learned from and watched grow over the previous handful of years, and Drayco McCoy is at the top of my list. Ever since his early days in music, his raw, gritty disposition and sound are what drew me in, to begin with, but watching him grow, mature, and just get better in so many facets of his music have made him a household staple on any playlist of mine. Not only this, but I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know him a bit more personally over the past year or two to the point where I consider him a friend, so I always want to see him thrive and conquer with anything he puts out. Last week, he messaged me and told me about his upcoming album Half Dead Pariah, and even though I had …

Charmander – [Amine]

Amine is an artist who seems to never lack creativity and constantly brings something new, energetic, and always enjoyable to the table. Admittedly, I slept on him when he first took the scene by storm, and even when he was selected as a XXL Freshman a few years back, I still used my own ignorance as a reason to not want to give him the time of day. Still to this day, I seriously have no clue why I slept so long on the emcee, and ever since I finally tuned in, I’ve been playing catch up because I don’t want to miss another offering from this always versatile and captivating artist, and I feel like most other music fans would agree with me. There’s never a shortage of inventiveness or personality when it comes to any of his songs, and his latest release “Charmander” is absolutely no different, while the Adam Daniel and Jack Begert-directed music video is something that you seriously need to check out immediately. When it begins, it looks as if Amine is on some sort of hiking expedition in a green-filled forest before things take a complete 180-degree turn and he finds himself beside a …

Sippin – [Icewear Vezzo] & [Babyface Ray]

Although I have been very invested in the Michigan rap scene for probably no more than a year, I feel as if it has been a lifetime since I first found out about this gem of a music region. I think it feels this way because there is never any shortage of artists emerging from the shadows, and every single day I feel like I hear about another emcee who is making their claim as to why they’re a force to be reckoned with in music. While it seems like there is never going to be a halt when it comes to new, promising talent, there are definitely a few names who have become superstars, and they’re undeniably the people who are paving the way for all of these other artists to make a name for themselves. At this point, there are simply too many to name in just one article, so I’ll keep the list short and give credit to Icewear Vezzo and Babyface Ray, two of the most notorious artists in Michigan, and they only seem to continue getting better as more and more people find out about them. Just a few days ago, this duo teamed up …

AUTOTONE – [Matty Wood$]

There’s a certain feeling when you listen to a project through its entirety, realizing just how good it is as you proceed throughout. That’s the exact feeling I got with AUTOTONE, the latest mastery from St. Louis native, Matty Wood$, a.k.a. the “Backwoods Bandit.” Starting from the top, Wood$ shows off his sound which has found a niche in the industry; harmonious layered autotune softly laid over masterful keys, winds and 808s. With “Here we go again” leading off, listeners get a taste of the melodic nature of his voice, and groovy keys match the tone to give a tremendous preview of the rest of the project. Songs like “Elektra,” and “The Ballad of Tony Tone, Pt. 2,” give glimpses into catchy one-liners-turned-hooks that can’t help but melt to their respective instrumentals. I promise you, “This the sound that money make, 20 thumbin’ through the cake,” won’t leave your head. Moving down the tracklist is a fantastic run of four songs that seemed to impress me more and more as the album proceeded. The hooks drew me in, and the layered beats and vocal tracks flawlessly mended on “Mean Choppa” and “Sticky Icky,” with a slower, reverb-heavy masterpiece in “Dirty.” …

Luigi – [2KBABY] ft. [Chief Keef]

2KBABY is an artist who I heard so much buzz about, but I never got around to checking out his music, somehow. Although Jack Harlow is an artist who can be considered the face of Louisville rap, there are so many incredible talents hailing from the Ville, and 2K is definitely a name you should keep in your head, and this was made obvious to me after I finally tuned in and realized what I was missing out on. He might still be scratching and clawing his way through the ranks of the music industry, but he already has a solidified foundation in the scene after working with numerous other artists including G Herbo, Marshmello, and others as well as a few other promising collaborations on the way with names like Murda Beatz. Most recently, the song that finally got me to listen up and pay attention was “Luigi”, 2K’s latest track with Chicago icon Chief Keef, so when I saw this record and Jay Pusha-directed music video came out towards the end of last week, I couldn’t put it off any longer. In the instrumental, there are some optimistic, resilient piano keys that are brought to new levels once …

Watch Femdot perform “Bussin” on COLORS

There are few artists in the current music scene that are more important to Chicago than Femdot. He has been grinding for years, making moves on a daily basis to go from local legend to world-renown phenom, and it has been one of the most fun rises to fame to watch that I can think of. The way Fem is able to bridge the gap between his real-life stories and relevant, impressive sounds is remarkable, and his skills are nothing short of incredible. Despite his constant grind, it has been so cool to see all of his hard work pay off, especially over the last year or so, but it’s insane to think that this is still just the start of his potential being unleashed to wider audiences. One thing fans can get excited about is the highly-anticipated release of his upcoming project Not For Sale, and as we prepare for that, he released a brand-new single entitled “Bussin” that certainly has me waiting on the edge of my seat for his next project because if it’s anything like this song, I know it’s going to do numbers and be massively successful. In order to gain even more buzz for …
