Dragonball Durag (Remix) – [Thundercat] ft. [Smino] & [Guapdad 4000]

When “Dragonball Durag” came out on Thundercat’s album It is What It Is earlier this year, I was a massive fan. Not only was it comical, of course, and the video helped level up the comedic aspects of it, but it was just so smooth and charming, which is kind of ridiculous considering the lyrical content of the song itself. While I’ve made it known that Cat’s album is one of my favorites so far this year, I’m always looking for additions, adjustments, and remixes to see who else can bring a new flame to the party. Most recently, the newest spin on the classic, humorous love song was provided by two unlikely artists, but two of the most talented artists, nonetheless. The two people I’m talking about, of course, are Smino and Guapdad 4000. While I’ve been a fan of Smino’s for a while, I’ve just recently started listening to Guapdad’s music, and I’m beyond impressed with everything I’ve heard. On the “Dragonball Durag” remix, Thundercat keeps his verses in place and untouched, ensuring that they remain as flawless and as wholesome as they were in the original version. I also enjoy this tactic because as I was making …

100 Proof – [Peter $un] ft. [Guapdad 4000]

Virginia is no stranger to producing some incredible talents over the years, yet it still doesn’t get the props it deserves for being a low-key hub for Hip-Hop artists. Due to this, there are often artists who fly under my radar, and Peter $un has been one of those musicians who I was unaware of for way too long. Luckily, my obliviousness has come to an end once and for all today after I came across his brand-new song and lyrics video due to the fact that he actually ended up recruiting Guapdad 4000 for a verse. Guapdad has become one of my most recent favorite artists to listen to because his personality and charisma are just infectious, and his versatility is unmatched. Due to his inclusion on this track, I knew I had no choice but to tune in. The name of the song is “100 Proof”, and if this isn’t the definition of a feel-good Summer vibe, I’m not sure what is. Synths rotate between high and low pitches before crisp, rattling hats and incredible, sliding 808s jump into the instrumental and give it much-appreciated energy that is the perfect foundation for the two talents to do their …

Choppa Talk – [Guapdad 4000] ft. [TyFontaine]

Although I’m not overly familiar with Guapdad 4000 to be completely candid, I have been seeing his name everywhere recently, so I think that it’s about time I tuned in. Due to his name sounding like the coolest new technology of the year as well as the titles of some of his songs sounding nothing less than meme-worthy, I was expecting his offerings to be more of a parody than any sort of actually appealing music, but I was totally wrong after checking some of them out. There’s a reason why artists like Denzel Curry, Rich Brian, Chance the Rapper, 6LACK, JID, Smino and so many more mess with his music, and after turning on even just one song, it’s more than apparent as to why. He’s so abundantly talented and the fact that some of his song’s titles might sound like memes definitely doesn’t translate into a joke once you press play. This is just another way he shows off his personality because aside from being an incredible artist, Guapdad is truly one of the most entertaining and intriguing musicians in the entire music industry. On his most recent single “Choppa Talk”, he recruited the skyrocketing sensation TyFontaine to …

Love in My Pocket – [Rich Brian]

When I first heard of Rich Brian, who obviously went by a different name at the start of his career, I was a fan but also didn’t anticipate much from him other than a few satirical songs and then a steady decline of fame. After learning more about him, its abundantly clear how smart of a person he is overall, and this intelligence bleeds into so many different aspects of his life, especially his music. He has aligned himself with some of the most interesting and unique artists in the industry, successfully experimented with a variety of different styles, and has even gotten into certain content aside from music like cooking and other types of entertainment. His skillset clearly runs deep, and I can’t help but marvel at his success, because he has turned what might’ve been a comedy Rap career into a sustainable, notable, and multifaceted career that is thanks to no one but himself. It’s been a little bit of time since his previous release “BALI” featuring Guapdad 4000 came out, but he’s back in another experimental fashion with his brand-new offering called “Love in My Pocket”. On this track, a powerful baseline coupled with eye-popping synths catches …

BALI- [Rich Brian] ft. [Guapdad4000]

Usually, it takes a good amount of time and effort for a meme rapper to change the perception of fans to that of someone who should be taken seriously in the music world. Luckily for Rich Brian, his extremely unique, deep voice garnered the attention of fans from the start, so although his song concepts might have been comical, he didn’t have much trouble transitioning into a legitimate rap career. Since doing so, he has gained a massive following, going on tours and collaborating with some of the biggest names in music. In order to spend his time in a productive way during this quarantine period, Brian decided to release a brand-new music video for his song “BALI” featuring Guapdad 4000. Spaced-out synths, speaker-busting 808s, and rattling percussion all pair flawlessly together to form a crisp foundation for an absolute hit. Although he is clearly known for his deep voice and intricate flows, Brian has recently been experimenting with singing and the results are pretty resounding. On the hook, Brian chops up his words before stretching out others, truly showing how variable his artistry can become. I actually didn’t even realize it was him singing at first because he really …

Lo Lo – [Destiny Rogers] ft. [P-Lo] & [Guapdad 4000]

I love all the young, creative talent coming out of the bay right now (as always). It’s more than just hip-hop too. Take Destiny Rogers, for example. She carries that distinct Bay swagger but translates it to a pop-leaning style. On her latest, “Lo-Lo” she bridges the gap like the Golden Gate, with hip-hop infused effort that features two other Bay Area representatives in P-Lo and Guapdad. It may seem like an unexpected collaboration, and while each artist has a distinct style, they all share in that buzzing Bay energy, allowing them each to fit Stereotypes’ glossy production without ever missing a beat.  A relatively fresh face on the scene, this may be the first you’ve heard from the 20-year-old Rogers, but it definitely won’t be the last.

Revenge Of The Dreamers III – [Dreamville]

The moment we’ve all been waiting for since January is here, J.Cole and his Dreamville posse have dropped their highly anticipated compilation album Revenge Of The Dreamers III. 2019 has been a huge year for Cole and it seems him and all of Dreamville is going to be on our necks all year. This album is the final product from the mythical and legendary Dreamville sessions that took place in Atlanta, Georgia back in mid-January. Even though I’ve only been through the project twice so far you can tell the energy in these rooms were special. It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite track this early on but they’re a lot of people and moments that stood out to me. Some of the MVP’s of the album from my perspective were JID, EarthGang, Buddy, Guapdad 4000, Lute and Yung Nudy. A couple of songs that I found myself gravitating to this early on were “Under The Sun”, “1993”, “Self Love”, “Sunset” and the standout single “Down Bad.” The Dreamville troop were successful in trying to mix and match different styles and talent and weave and integrate them together to create which is probably their best album in the …

Red Flags – [Guapdad 4000]

Here to bring the energy as always, Guapdad 4000 just released a new track, and it might just be one of his best offerings to date. “Red Flags” is melodic and banging, carrying a nice pace throughout while allowing Guapdad to float over the ominous production. For an artist on the come-up, it’s great to see him advancing his artistry and always making sure to pave his own lane, and, if he continues straddling this line, Guapdad will likely win himself a lot of fans. Put this on when you’re trying to kick it or go for a nighttime drive, and look out for more from him. He seems to have a prolific output of releases, so it shouldn’t be long before we get another new track.

Harlan & Alondra – [Buddy]

Compton has another star on its hands and he goes by the name Buddy. This rising talent has been on my radar for a few years now, and today, he’s here to take the spotlight and show the world what he’s capable of with an incredibly honest new album, Harlan & Alondra. At the very heart of its inception, this album is a family affair — a moment for Buddy to brings his full personality to the light and tell us about the live he has lived so far, all the while touching bases on the issues in today’s world and how they affect his growth as a person. Both aspects of the project are illustrated with sun-soaked instrumentals and stellar feature spots from Guapdad 4000, A$AP Ferg, Ty Dolla $ign, Snoop Dogg, and Khalid, all of which shine on their respective spots. With this, the unwavering energy that Buddy blesses us with on this album is second to none. He takes his entire world and fits it into just under 40 minutes of timeless music without compromising the story in any way, and for that, this needs to be on the top of your must-listen list. Check out Harlan & Alondra …
