Denzel Curry: Retracing Roots

“I think about how my art is going to be reflected when I’m gone.” This is something Denzel Curry said to me during our conversation just moments before his stellar performance for 5,000 people in Boston this past Friday in support of Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep tour. Denzel has been an artist that I’ve held in high regard over the years because I’ve been able to recognize his dedication to the art, and to hear him talk about his passion for the craft was inspiring. Denzel Curry has been rapping for about eight years now, and by the young age of twenty-four, he’s already passed huge milestones in the game of rap due to his impressive work ethic and unwavering artistic integrity. Not only does he have an incredible discography under his belt, but he’s already garnered a noticeable impact on the genre of rap at such a young age, all while constantly growing, evolving, and refining his output in the process. On a widespread scale, many fans became aware of Curry after his track “Ultimate” turned into a viral internet sensation, becoming the “water-bottle-flipping” song just a few years back. Even this track though, as big …

While Chicago has been known as a reputable city in hip-hop for numerous years now, this revered position has not arrived without the constant innovation and hard work of the artists that so faithfully represent the prowess of their home city. It is these artists that we have to credit for this respected reputation, and we here at Lyrical Lemonade try to honor this in every way possible by constantly bringing new Chicago acts into our headlines here on our website. That said, 2018 has been yet another fantastic year for Chicago music, so we went ahead and compiled a list of our “Top 50 Chicago Projects” of the year. This now marks the third year that we have been putting out this list, and we believe that it’s safe to say this year’s list might just be the most solid one from top to bottom that we’ve seen yet. Thank you to our terrific writing staff for all of the hard work they have put in this year, I will be linking their socials below so be sure to contact them about getting featured on the website in the future. Nervous – [Famous Dex] Ft. [Lil Baby] [Jay Critch] [Rich The Kid]

Chances are you tuned in for the Famous Dex, Rich The Kid & KILLY track back in May titled Guap that was consequently leaked and now, a new version has surfaced from Dex as he taps Lil Baby, Jay Critch & Rich The Kid once again for, Nervous. Sticking to the same production from Take A Daytrip, the energy is set at an all-time high as Dex opens with his catchy hook before QC’s Lil Baby jumps in for arguably one of the best features we’ve heard from the Atlanta native since his emergence. Followed by verses from the Rich Forever mates that were certainly no slouch either, Nervous comes as a wake-up call for everyone that Dex hasn’t gone anywhere and you’d have to hope that we are nearing another project from the Chicago native very soon. Having said that, kick off your weekend with Nervous at the link below and keep posted for the next one from Dex & company very soon!

Watch Lil Durk’s interview with No Jumper

Following last week’s episodes with Berner and Getter, the latest to take to the No Jumper hot seat was Chicago’s own Lil Durk for an interview you don’t want to miss. Kicking things off with details on his next project, both Adam and Durk chopped it up for a good 30 minutes on an array of topics including the early days of the drill scene, the late Fredo Santana, OTF and Chief Keef’s GBE, a forthcoming collab with Juice WRLD and much more throughout the discussion. It’s no surprise that Adam22 has now reached significant corners in Chicago’s scene with the likes of Young Chop, Famous Dex, 600Breezy and G Herbo to name a few who have come through the No Jumper space for an interview of their own and in some cases, have similar stories from their come-ups in Chicago. That being said, don’t miss out on ‘The Lil Durk Interview’ below and go watch the past interviews on No Jumper’s page right here. Via: No Jumper

Head In The Clouds – [joji]

If you are yet to check out 88rising’s collaboration tape Head In The Clouds, then you’re definitely missing out on some of the hottest music of the Summer. After seeing videos for Peach Jam with BlocBoy JB, Swimming Pool and Japan 88 with Famous Dex, the next track to be given a visual treatment is joji’s album song also called Head In The Clouds. Taking place literally in the clouds, joji can be seen floating throughout the world and into space while delivering his hypnotic verse on being stuck in a haze and never coming down from it. Joji already has the reputation of starring in the most creative videos (such as the singles yeah right & will he ) but before checking that out, let loose the cut for Head In The Clouds and catch the 88rising camp on their Head In The Clouds tour kicking off in September!

Gun Fight – [Famous Dex]

Coming off a pair of features with the likes of Comethazine & Rocket Tha Goon, LL favorite Famous Dex is back in his own spotlight with the incredible new visual for Gun Fight. Courtesy of his go-to shooter known as Chief Will, the title gives away the majority of the cut as Dex can be seen bodying the unearthly production while playing with a few of his favorite toys. The Chicago natives last visual for Spalding that dropped in June was undoubtedly one of my favorite Dex videos in recent memory but after peeping this one a few times, it’s safe to say he has outdone himself once again. Make sure to kick-off your weekend with Famous Dex’ fresh song & visual for Gun Fight and let us know if you’re feeling the new heat in the comments below! Via: WORLDSTARHIPHOP

BOY DON’T CAP! – [Comethazine] Ft. [Famous Dex]

Following his last Bhunna-produced releases in HERO & DEMI, Comethazine makes his way back today with who-else but Famous Dex for an ecstatic new collab titled BOY DON’T CAP!. Over the animated production, both artists took turns unleashing their catchy verses on taking your girl, pulling up with the heat and people ‘capping like hats’ which you may have seen was the main theme of the cover art. If you’re a regular over here, you’re very well aware of the sprouting talents of Comethazine and when he & his counterpart in Dex come through with a connection like this, there’s no better showcase of why they are both riding their respective waves right now. Be sure to tune-in for the latest heat from Comethazine titled BOY DON’T CAP! with Famous Dex and let us know if this track is making it’s way to your playlist.
