Just the Same – [Big Gigantic] [Vic Mensa] & [Mick Jenkins]

If I’m being completely honest, dance music hasn’t always been a genre that I find myself leaning towards listening to in my own free time, but as the years have gone on there are definitely some artists that I thoroughly enjoy and will tap in with every now and then. One duo that seems to be one of the most legendary dance tag teams in the entire history of the genre is Big Gigantic, a Colorado-based pair of incredibly talented musicians who have blended a variety of styles together to form an upbeat, energetic sound that is more individualistic to them than any other sounds I can think of. Although I may not necessarily listen to them religiously by any means, I saw a press release that was sent to my email regarding a new single entitled “Just the Same”, and while I was intrigued, I’d be lying if I said I would’ve opened it had I not seen the fact that both Vic Mensa and Mick Jenkins were included on this record. I’m glad I tuned in, though, because the instrumental is very reminiscent of the early, soulful sounds that Mick and Vic used to make when they first …

Get Refreshed: Blogger’s Choice Vol.1

“Get Refreshed” is a monthly column by Billy Bugara covering all things digital in the music world. Refresh yourself here. I Don’t Have The Stamina For This Blogging Shit Billy Bugara Hi. I’m back, and this time I brought my friends. So… I feel like this column could use a lot less Me every once in a while. I don’t treat blogging like a sport; I barely even blog at all. But even still, I know damn well that blogging isn’t really where I strive compared to others, and that’s okay! I have to write research papers every day… we are simply not the same. In all seriousness, I do want to explain what’s going on here before we jump into things. I am a person of platforming, a platforming person, if you will (it is my job for SoundCloud, after all). I just really enjoy turning the spotlight towards those who deserve it most. Most of the time – all of the time, really – I’m featuring musicians. But what about turning this spotlight towards other people who like to… spotlight musicians as well? Is this really ever done? Not often! Can it be done? Should it be done? Yes and yes! …

Happy, Healthy, Well-Adjusted (Official Visualizer)-[Max Bennett Kelly]

Over the past few months, it seems like I haven’t been able to escape Max Bennett Kelly and that’s something I’m not mad about at all. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then odds are, you know the name Max Bennett Kelly. A little while ago, he made it onto our pages for the first time after his latest song, “Happy, Healthy, Well-Adjusted” went crazy on tiktok. To this day, the track has amassed over 3 million streams on Spotify alone, which is definitely a big deal when it comes to an independent artist. Today, the up and comer is making it back onto our page for the release of the official visualizer for the song. The minimalistic visual is the perfect compliment to such a gigantic song as it over emphasizes the honest lyrics and down to earth concept. This entire song is fire, but the visualizer adds some cool life to an already great piece. Make sure to check out the video at the link provided!

Coloring Book – [Chance The Rapper]

Man it’s been quite a ride for Chance The Rapper. Four years ago Chance was really just one of us, by that I mean a teenage kid from Chicago who had an undeniable love and appreciation for the music our city produces & really just the city itself. He started his journey on April, 3rd 2012 when he dropped his first mixtape titled “10 Day” after getting a ten day suspension from his former high school Jones College Prep. At the time this what seemed to be a curse ultimately turned out to be one of the biggest blessings he has ever received. Chance took full advantage of the suspension and used that built up anger to give us the perfect introduction to himself with “10 Day.” The idea he provided within that first project was extremely likable, the story of a rebel with all the odds against him fighting (not literally) against his school and the police, seriously who wasn’t rooting for the young Chance at this point? Not only was the idea of the project genius, but Chance gave us fans numerous relatable singles throughout the tape, from speaking on the death of a close friend in “Nostalgia” & “Missing You,” to giving his mother …
