Half Dead Pariah – [Drayco McCoy]

At this point in time, I’ve been heavily invested in the underground music scene for the better part of a decade. While this scene is so diverse and multifaceted, I’d be lying if I said I was an expert on even a fraction of the artists coming up right now, but I do feel confident in saying that there are certain talents whom I’ve learned from and watched grow over the previous handful of years, and Drayco McCoy is at the top of my list. Ever since his early days in music, his raw, gritty disposition and sound are what drew me in, to begin with, but watching him grow, mature, and just get better in so many facets of his music have made him a household staple on any playlist of mine. Not only this, but I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know him a bit more personally over the past year or two to the point where I consider him a friend, so I always want to see him thrive and conquer with anything he puts out. Last week, he messaged me and told me about his upcoming album Half Dead Pariah, and even though I had …

won’t say 2 much – [Austin Skinner]

Austin Skinner is an artist who I’ve had on my radar for a couple of years, at this point, but it wasn’t until the last six months or so that I truly began to appreciate his music for just how incredible it really is. He has this way of combining his commanding vocals with deep, powerful synths that work together so remarkably well, but he also constantly ensures that he’s not just putting out the same style of music, switching things up with ease in order to keep his foot on the gas and not slow down for even a second. Ever since teaming up with BIGBABYGUCCI and their Better Temperatures label, it seems like his skills have only sharpened and his creativity is at an all-time high, so now more than ever is the moment in time that you need to pay attention to what he’s doing within his very captivating and fruitful career. He’s never one to go too long without releasing something new, and today he kept that streak going with the release of his latest single “won’t say 2 much”. Produced by Sapjer and Joe Dirt, things open up with a part of the instrumental that …

Heart Stop – [Weiland] [FISH]

Florida’s Gavin Weiland has been one of the most intriguing artists to emerge from the pluggnb-centric, late-SoundCloud scene that followed up the initial 2016-2017 run on the site that has become a verifiable era in terms of broad-music history, but he and a host of other artists who he has since begun to distance himself from, came in as a new guard of sorts, helping bring back an underground scene that wasn’t inextricably linked to major record labels or No Jumper or anything else of the like from the ‘clout era’ if you will. Both sonically and from a standpoint of marketing his music, Weiland has been one of the more overlooked and simultaneously groundbreaking artists of the last decade. He doesn’t boast an incredibly massive catalog or anything like that and initially proliferated his music through a series of simultaneously bizarre and hilarious skits and snippets that revealed Weiland’s sarcastic personality and of course the music which was beginning to take the internet by storm. As other artists around him began to become more and more toxic and their fanbase followed suit, Weiland began to distance himself from both the scene and style of music that initially helped him …

I’m Not Calling You Yeroc 2 – [Yeroc]

Making his debut in the Lyrical Lemonade debut today is Dallas, TX artist Yeroc who just unloaded a new project titled I’m Not Calling You Yeroc 2 where he floats and skates over a variety of instrumental styles, all of which are uniform in terms of raucous percussion but each provides a different atmosphere for Yeroc to slide over the beat. His flows are varied and fit well on each instrumental style and his lyrical abilities are very impressive to me, from his clever punchlines to his more self-aware rhymes about his pain, relationships, and music career. Yeroc is certainly beginning to help lead a new renaissance of Texas artists who are more artistically well rounded than many of their more popular mainstream counterparts and are collectively pushing to build a new reputation for their city’s scene as well as forging a new sound that helps their area be more easily sonically recognizable. Keaton Jones helped handled Yeroc with the creative direction of this project, crafting the visual content and providing input on the flow of the project, including the frequently looped short vocal interludes that help create an exact theme for this collection of songs, and this was also …

Before Us – [BIGBABYGUCCI]

If you’ve been following my writing at all over the past couple of years, it shouldn’t come as a surprise at all that I’m a massive fan of BIGBABYGUCCI. He’s simply one of the best in the underground, and I’d even consider him an originator without a second thought because, without him, so many of these new up-and-comers wouldn’t have the guidance they need to truly make a statement in music. While I’m still obsessed with his latest project 1 Night I Took Acid and I listen to it at least a few times per week, I’m also just pumped to see he’s continuing the fun with some awesome music videos. Luckily, one of my favorite songs off the album “Before Us” just received a visual treatment with a little help from Reel Bump who directs most of GUCCI’s videos, so I knew it was going to be a banger regardless. As things start up, GUCCI and his girl are having fun taking some Polaroid pictures inside of a very vibrant, colorful room full of different shapes and patterns that bring us back to the ’70s or ’80s. After this, some introductory credits start up playing off of the theme …

DETACHED – [Austin Skinner]

I love the underground music scene because once I find out about one artist, they almost always lead me to an entire world of new talents that I might’ve never found out about had I not known about the initial artist in the first place. It almost feels like a constantly growing tree, and the more branches I venture out into, the more unbelievable talent I discover, which I have turned into a mission of mine to put as many people on to these unbelievably skilled individuals as I can. Austin Skinner is definitely one of these artists, and while I was put onto him after his work with BIGBABYGUCCI and ITSOKTOCRY, I was fully engrossed in the sonic world he was creating. Not only that, but he has also introduced me to countless other artists he has worked with in the past as well which helps me continue branching out and diversifying my musical taste. While I don’t think Austin can do any wrong whatsoever, he continues his hot streak with his brand0new album DETACHED, and after I realized it released, I stopped everything I was doing and tuned in. When I saw him hyping it up for the …

Dinero – [BIGBABYGUCCI]

It seems like recently more than ever, I’ve been writing about all of BIGBABYGUCCI’s latest releases, but they’re just honestly too good for me to pass up. While I’ve been a fan of his for a while, I feel like he is just stepping his game up more than ever recently. When he dropped 1 Night I Took Acid just a few weeks ago, I was blown away at how insanely good it was, and it has been in my constant rotation ever since. While it’s tough. For me to pick a favorite song, I have to say that one record I keep going back to is “Dinero”, so when I saw he teamed up with Reel Bump once again to shoot another movie, I had no choice but to tune in. As it begins, we are introduced to a reoccurring character that is played by GUCCI wearing a sharp suit and a ski mask, which he proceeds to wear during his various bank heists. While this character walks around the Hollywood walk of fame with his bag of cash slung over his shoulder without a care in the world, more normalized shots are used throughout. These shots show the …

Elegant – [Austin Skinner]

Austin Skinner is undeniably one of the most exciting up-and-coming talents in the entire industry, yet he still seems to remain as underrated as they come. He has the ability to switch up his styles, adapt to different productions and sounds, and no matter what kind of beat is placed in front of him, he legitimately never releases a bad verse, keeping his streak consistently strong since entering the industry years ago. While I’ve been a fan for a number of years and know just how special of a talent he is, others are going to catch on sooner or later, and BIGBABYGUCCI saw the same exact thing, recently recruiting him to be a part of his Better Temperatures label. In my opinion, this was a great move for both Austin and GUCCI, and seeing how well they work together since joining forces makes me even more confident in the future as well. Over the weekend, Austin decided to drop off an amazing new music video for his song called “Elegant”, and I couldn’t be more excited to share. Directed by Aaron Fenichell and Dante Napoli, they bring this ProdByEvn song to life in an awesome fashion that shows his …

Pressure + Layers – [BIGBABYGUCCI]

Just a week or two ago, BIGBABYGUCCI dropped off his highly anticipated project entitled 1 Night I Took Acid, and while I still want to dive even deeper into this record, I can already tell you without a doubt in my mind that it’s one of his strongest efforts to date. That’s saying a lot too because he has been known as one of the biggest phenoms in the underground, so with a discography as strong as his, other artists can struggle to live up to their previous hits. Obviously, this isn’t the case for BBG though, and throughout the 12 songs that last right about 26 and a half minutes long, GUCCI takes us on a journey to another world that you need to hear to understand exactly what I mean. Although there are so many hits on this project that it’s hard for me to choose specific favorites, I think it goes without saying that a fan favorite was one of the project’s singles entitled “Pressure + Layers”. While the album’s version features the legendary Cold Hart, GUCCI decided that he wanted to team back up with filmmaker Keaton Jones to shoot a movie for this hit, and …

New Check – [Better Temperatures] ft. [BIGBABYGUCCI] [Austin Skinner] [30ROCK]

Not very long ago at all, BIGBABYGUCCI announced his own independent label that was going to be known as Better Temperatures. While it seemed like he was already considered a legend in the underground, I respected the fact that he wanted to take others under his wing and help promising up and comers out as well. Considering I was already a big Austin Skinner fan, when I saw his addition to the group, I was beyond stoked, and although 30ROCK was a new name, I’ve grown quite the admiration for his skills ever since tuning into all of BT’s music since their start. When I first heard their song “New Check” a couple of months ago, I was all in. This was the label’s first record that they had put out together, and not only was the beat incredible, but it was also just amazing to see how well all three artists worked together as their chemistry was obvious and marvelous. Obviously, I’m still craving new music, but I was beyond excited to see that the dynamic trio decided to team back up for their first official music video as a group, recruiting Reel Bump to shoot this flick for …
