Blood On My Hands – [AUGUST 08] feat. [Smino]

88rising’s after hours vocalist, AUGUST 08, shares a new video for his previously released single, “Blood On My Hands,” featuring St. Louis’ own, Smino. The eerie new video reflects the darker tone of the song that is highlighted with a strobe medley of ominous shots. AUGUST 08 is at the center of the new video, emotionally distraught by his actions of infidelity that reflect the song’s bloody theme. This has been AUGUST’s first video release since sharing the visuals for his previous single, “Spiral,” in mid November of last year. Hopefully this new content from AUGUST acts as a precursor for a new project on the horizon, being that his last album came in early May of 2018. If you’re digging the new bounce-riddled, after hours ballad share the video with a friend and show some love to AUGUST 08 by following him on Twitter and Instagram.

Turning The Camera Around: Interviewer Spotlight

Even in the age of social media, where artists can constantly connect and speak to an endless number of fans with the click of a few buttons, the art of the sit-down interview will never be lost or, for that matter, replaced. From the intricate details of Nardwuar interviews to the knowledgeable conversations of Elliott Wilson, these interviews are what adds a dimension of background and personality to the musicians we know and love, and for that, they demand appreciation. Whether explaining obscure childhood stories, the meaning of albums, their influences, or any other plethora of topics, musicians tend to open up when paired with the right interviewer, and the benefit of these conversations is for all to enjoy. Interviews provide fans with background, insight, and nowadays, viral moments, offering up endless entertainment that satisfies casual listeners and stans alike. They allow artists an opportunity to communicate their messages and aspirations on a level far more profound than a simple tweet, and consequently, an opportunity to breathe new life into the music that soundtracks the lives of so many. Here at Lyrical Lemonade, we’re constantly posting new interviews with all of our favorite artists to learn more about the masterminds …

Blood On My Hands – [AUGUST 08] ft. [Smino]

Last week, 88rising announced the star-studded Higher Brothers album with a brand new single. This week, it’s another 88rising artist, AUGUST 08 in the limelight with his first offering of 2019, “Blood On My Hands.” Starting off slow and building tension along the way, the Los Angeles native beckons you in slowly, spacing out his hypnotic crooning before the electronic-twinged beat kicks in with some hypnotic, tribal-esque drums. Smino, who, despite his unique style, seemingly fits any beat, quickly joins in, using his whurring delivery as the perfect accentuation to the tracks bounce. Loading the front half of the song with the build-up (and the Smino feature), AUGUST 08 rounds out the effort focused less on a lyrical-oriented deliver, instead choosing to use his voice more of an instrument that layers atop and tucks into an already dense backdrop. That said, the progression, as well as the way in which August 08 incorporates space in the song’s unique structure, makes this a very engaging, unconventional experience, and certainly one that you won’t be able to forget. “Blood On My Hands” is perfect for a late night drive, so check this one out below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Spiral – [AUGUST 08] feat. [WYNNE]

The 88Rising collective has been on a streak as of late. Among the litany of talented members, AUGUST 08 is taking a stand out role with the release of his newest single, “Spiral.” The gifted songwriter and vocalist chronicles the complexity of love and the literal spiral it then leads to. AUGUST recruits London-based artist, WYNNE for additional vocals adding to the song’s gloomy overtones. This is AUGUST’s first single since the release of his debut album, FATHER, shared back in early May. Never one to disappoint from a visual standpoint we cannot help but hope this new single is accompanied by equally powerful visuals. Keep your eye on AUGUST 08 and the 88Rising collective as they continue to deliver impressive content from each of their talented roster. Listen to “Spiral” from AUGUST 08 below and tell us your thoughts on the song and the growing collective in the comment section!

Crush EP – [Ravyn Lenae] prod. [Steve Lacy]

Chicago prodigy and rising star Ravyn Lenae has dropped the follow-up to her 2017 project, “Midnight Moonlight,” today. “Crush” is a 5-track EP from the soulful songwriter produced by The Internet’s Steve Lacy. The two 19-year-old artists built anticipation for the project back in December with the lead single “Sticky,” which got the music world buzzing about what else could be in store. From the second you hit play on “Crush,” it’s clear that Lenae and Lacy in the studio together are a tour de force. Lenae’s high notes put a listener in a trance from the second her vocals hit, delicately layered in a way that multiplies the impact of each note. When met with Lacy’s murky, funk-infused production, the meshing of sounds feels warm enough to transport a listener to the middle of August. The songwriting paints a relatable depiction of love’s unpredictability which also feels like a romantic escape from reality. These themes come full circle on the highlight track “4 Leaf Clover,” which features vocals from both artists. Over ultra-fuzzy guitar strums and synth pads, the song plays out in two different perspectives: Lenae plays the part of someone ready to take a relationship to the …

If you recall we released our “Top 50 Chicago Projects of 2016” list on the 31st last year, so it we had to bring it back this year due to the insane amount of talent that is coming out of Chicago. IsaiahG has released a slew of impressive singles over the past 3 years, but has become notorious for holding back on dropping an actual body of work. The Southside Chicago lyricist has linked up with plenty of Lyrical favorites for tracks during this time period including Duffle Bag Buru, Saba, Sydny August, Supa Bwe, and $ike The Drug to name a few. Today we are excited to announce the premiere of his debut EP, KNOWSPACE, a 6 track offering that gives us a glimpse of what IsaiahG is capable of. Executive producers, Aaron Deux and Cameron Butler design trance like waves combined with hard hitting percussion to create the addictive energy found in KNOWSPACE. IsaiahG brings a refreshing energy to the table with an arsenal of catchy flows and intelligent bars that we can’t help but replay over and over. We spoke with him about with him briefly on what he hoped new listeners to take away from KNOWSPACE and he said, “The title is a play on words from the fact that there is no space between IsaiahG which many people often don’t know…as well as this being my first EP so it lets people get to know my style.” His …
