Indigo – [NIKI]

88rising’s reigning pop queen NIKI returns this week with some new mid-summer heat on her single “Indigo”. Following her EP ‘wanna take this downtown’ which dropped earlier this year, the Indonesian singer-songwriter picks the tempo back up on this song and matches that upbeat energy with an equally captivating music video. NIKI’s hit her stride as an artist by walking a line between pop and RnB, and “Indigo” floats comfortably between the two genres, combining catchy melodies that carry an undeniable influence of soul in them with shimmering pop production. NIKI’s crystal clear vocals shine on “Indigo” as well, gracing the track’s tongue-twisting lyrics with ease and an airy vocal style. “Indigo” is the first single off 88rising’s forthcoming compilation album, ‘Head in the Clouds II’. With Rich Brian’s new album, and releases from other artists such as Joji, August08, and now NIKI, 88rising continues to gain traction and momentum from their impressive roster. Moreover, by releasing her solo track as the lead single, it seems the label is ready to give NIKI the spotlight she deserves. Watch NIKI’s new video for “Indigo” below:

4 Tha Wait – [Jay2]

After an over yearlong hiatus, Chicago rapper Jay2 is ready to come back in full effect with the release of his debut album. While the final LP nears completion, though, Jay2 has decided to tease his comeback with an EP titled ‘4 Tha Wait’ to catch listeners up with what he’s been working on. The 7-song project introduces (or reintroduces) listeners to Jay2’s strongest assets as an artist, meshing a trained ear for melodic rap with fast, aggressive flows. On ‘4 Tha Wait’, he keeps his circle tight working with frequent collaborator Monte Booker for the majority of the EP and prodxvzn for the song “Cheese”. Jay2 also recruits longtime friend Smino to add some star power on the bouncy summertime banger “Dork”. The two artists’ styles complement each other with Jay2’s energetic delivery being tempered by Smino’s signature laidback demeanor. Jay2’s comeback has been prosperous so far, with this promising EP and an upcoming headlining show at Schubas on August 31. Listen to ‘4 Tha Wait’ below and stay tuned for our Q&A with Jay2 himself coming soon.

Ain’t Shit Changed – [Supa Bwe]

Just about five minutes ago Chicago legend and Lyrical Lemonade favorite Supa Bwe released a brand new record titled “Ain’t Shit Changed” and it’s yet another great musical offering to come from Chicago today. Supa Bwe has always been ahead of the curve sonically and a trendsetter when it comes to using creatives flows + styles, and this new joint is the latest example of just that, he dabbled & experimented with a few different sounds here and I loved every minute of it. I am sure that this is just the start of a good string of music that’s about to be dropped on us by Supa Bwe in 2019, although this is just a loosie, I know he has some real heat tucked away that I am excited for the world to hear. Not only did Supa Bwe bless us with some new music tonight but he also announced that he will be headlining Reggies Rock Club in Chicago on August 9th along side Hurt Everybody + Duffle Bag Buru! You can purchase tickets to the show here!

Blood On My Hands – [AUGUST 08] feat. [Smino]

88rising’s after hours vocalist, AUGUST 08, shares a new video for his previously released single, “Blood On My Hands,” featuring St. Louis’ own, Smino. The eerie new video reflects the darker tone of the song that is highlighted with a strobe medley of ominous shots. AUGUST 08 is at the center of the new video, emotionally distraught by his actions of infidelity that reflect the song’s bloody theme. This has been AUGUST’s first video release since sharing the visuals for his previous single, “Spiral,” in mid November of last year. Hopefully this new content from AUGUST acts as a precursor for a new project on the horizon, being that his last album came in early May of 2018. If you’re digging the new bounce-riddled, after hours ballad share the video with a friend and show some love to AUGUST 08 by following him on Twitter and Instagram.

Turning The Camera Around: Interviewer Spotlight

Even in the age of social media, where artists can constantly connect and speak to an endless number of fans with the click of a few buttons, the art of the sit-down interview will never be lost or, for that matter, replaced. Blood On My Hands – [AUGUST 08] ft. [Smino]

Last week, 88rising announced the star-studded Higher Brothers album with a brand new single. This week, it’s another 88rising artist, AUGUST 08 in the limelight with his first offering of 2019, “Blood On My Hands.” Starting off slow and building tension along the way, the Los Angeles native beckons you in slowly, spacing out his hypnotic crooning before the electronic-twinged beat kicks in with some hypnotic, tribal-esque drums. Smino, who, despite his unique style, seemingly fits any beat, quickly joins in, using his whurring delivery as the perfect accentuation to the tracks bounce. Loading the front half of the song with the build-up (and the Smino feature), AUGUST 08 rounds out the effort focused less on a lyrical-oriented deliver, instead choosing to use his voice more of an instrument that layers atop and tucks into an already dense backdrop. That said, the progression, as well as the way in which August 08 incorporates space in the song’s unique structure, makes this a very engaging, unconventional experience, and certainly one that you won’t be able to forget. “Blood On My Hands” is perfect for a late night drive, so check this one out below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Spiral – [AUGUST 08] feat. [WYNNE]

The 88Rising collective has been on a streak as of late. Among the litany of talented members, AUGUST 08 is taking a stand out role with the release of his newest single, “Spiral.” The gifted songwriter and vocalist chronicles the complexity of love and the literal spiral it then leads to. AUGUST recruits London-based artist, WYNNE for additional vocals adding to the song’s gloomy overtones. This is AUGUST’s first single since the release of his debut album, FATHER, shared back in early May. Never one to disappoint from a visual standpoint we cannot help but hope this new single is accompanied by equally powerful visuals. Keep your eye on AUGUST 08 and the 88Rising collective as they continue to deliver impressive content from each of their talented roster. Listen to “Spiral” from AUGUST 08 below and tell us your thoughts on the song and the growing collective in the comment section!

Handgun – [YG] Ft. [A$AP Rocky]

In anticipation for his forthcoming Stay Dangerous album set to drop next Friday, YG is back breaking the internet with the incredible new visuals for Handgun with A$AP Rocky. Along with unveiling the tracklist & cover album last night, the TM88 & MP 808-produced record was brought to the big screen that starts out with the Compton native directing his latest recruits at ‘Kamp Drip.’ With Harlem’s Pretty Flacko co-leading the boot camp, the duo can be seen trading vicious bars in the midst of several women before the cinematic wraps up with the duo turning up in what looks like a room for secret operations. Take it what you will, but this new cut is bound to be one of the biggest songs from Stay Dangerous and if you say otherwise, go ahead and prove me wrong by pressing play below and checking back for YG’s latest album releasing on August, 3rd!
