With the likes of Goldlink, Ciscero, and Innanet James leading the charge, I’m in love with the bounce coming out of the DMV hip-hop scene right now. However, these few artists aren’t all that the Nation’s Capital has to offer.

I can’t speak on the intricacies of it since it’s so far out of my wheelhouse, but there’s a thriving punk/metal/rock/hip-hop crossover sound emerging in DC and Maryland as well. One of my windows into the scene has been Alireza. A signee of the legendary Rock/Metal label, Earache Records, Alireza showcases his unique blend of metal and trap on his new, visually assisted-single “Vendetta.” Combining the raw aggression and guitar-based boardwork of a metal track with the drums, flow, and overall aesthetic of a trap song, Alireza creates a cohesive effort that can both metalheads and rap fans can engage with.

Hip-hop and metal/punk have always been strange bedfellows and it’s cool to see them intersect sonically in a more significant way than rappers wearing a Kurt Cobain T-shirt. That said, check out “Vendetta” below and if Alireza piqued your interest, keep an eye out for his debut album, Endlyss dropping April 12th.
