There are so many talented artists these days that itâs nearly impossible to keep up with, all we can do is try our best and ultimately discover what chance leads us to. I say that to say, some artists might slip through the cracks for some time, but that doesnât mean that we canât make time to revisit them and do their music justice once we do finally discover them. About two weeks ago, I was introduced to the music of Los Angeles-based artist and producer, Brett, and all I have to say is that Iâm glad I no longer have to go another day without his music in my life. Despite me being a little late to the party for his most recent EP, itâs better late than never and in the grand scheme of things weâre still early here, so Iâm elated to be shining the Lyrical spotlight on Brett today.Â
A project that you certainly wonât want to miss, Brettâs newest body of work, âLetters To You, Vol.1â, is the perfect introductory project to the introspective world that he is creating. Although an abbreviated project in some regards at just 4 songs, âLetters To You, Vol. 1â, is short and sweet as it manages to offer listeners a tasteful display of Brettâs abundant talents â a clear indication that now is the time to buy stock in Brettâs future. An effortless blend of both hip-hop and r&b styles, âLetters To You, Vol. 1â showcases Brettâs ability to blur the lines between the two genres all the while creating a distinct sound that is sure to captivate your attention. Similar to the likes of greats such as Tupac Shakur or J. Cole, in each of the records off of âLetters To You, Vol. 1â it feels like Brett is speaking to you in a conversational manner which makes the records feel even more personal and heartfelt. Highlighted by some of my personal favorites, âChangesâ, âTo The Gameâ, and the outro âHighs & Lowsâ, Brett shines with passionate, emotion-driven storytelling over sample-heavy hip-hop instrumentals from one song to the next.
