Blitz/Allure – [Destroy Lonely]

Although there are so many artists that I could mention who have made a massive impact on me this year, I think the trophy rightfully goes to Destroy Lonely. I know that he has been making waves in the music business for a few years at this point, but I just got hip to him in 2022, and I’ve been making up for lost time ever since. He just has this extremely unique style that is even more captivating thanks to his out-of-the-box flows and one of a kind voice, but the thing that I appreciate most about him is the fact that he is never afraid to push his limits and experiment with something new.

At the same time, even these experiments seem to remain in a similar lane to a sound that he has made his own, so even if they’re different or unpredictable, they seem to make perfect sense with the overall aesthetic that he has built for himself. As big of a fan as I am, I somehow completely overlooked the fact that he dropped a deluxe version of his album NO STYLIST entitled NS+ (Ultra) that contributed another 5 songs and just about 13 minutes of run time, so I definitely have some catching up to do, but it’s my favorite kind of work so I can’t complain.

Two of the hits on this deluxe version are called “Blitz” and “Allure”, and two songs are always better than one when it comes to creating a JMP-directed music video like the one he made for these two combined records. Continuing on with his dark, ominous, and somewhat secretive demeanor, both portions take place at night as a spotlight seems to be the only source of light for him to be shown in his oversized cloak. In fact, the only time we get a clear look at the emcee is while he is dancing around the all-white halls of a large mansion, but even here, he keeps the robe’s hood up so we only catch a glimpse of him every now and then.

Aside from the man himself, JMP utilizes a slightly gritty style of camerawork with intentionally shaky shots and a granular lens quality that really drives the artist’s aesthetic home. I can’t wait to see what else Destroy Lonely has in store as the years go on, but I have some catching up to do right now, so make sure you get in tune with this video and the extended version of the album if you were sleeping as well!
